The Chicago Machine lost their 3rd game in a row at Toyota Park (Bridgeview, Illinois) to the Denver Outlaws in another game that saw the Machine fall behind big.
The game got underway with several great shots on goal by both teams – including point blank shots that hit the goal posts. Chicago Machine goalie Mike Gable set the standard early on with several fantastic saves before an assist by Drew Westervelt from behind and over the top of the goal to Matt Bryant gave the Outlaws the early lead.
After 7 minutes with only one goal between them, Denver then scored three quick goals, first by Sean Lindsay (assist by Brendan Mundorf) and then unassisted goals by Josh Sims and Brian Langtry.
After a great defensive stand, Chicago got on the board with 2:50 remaining in the first quarter with an unassisted goal by Libertyville-native Steven Brooks. And that’s how the quarter ended.
The 2nd quarter got underway with Chicago playing with renewed energy. After another hit goal post by his brother Mike, Kevin Leveille scored the first goal of the 2nd quarter, assist by Rookie Kenny Nims bringing the Machine within 2.
After another strong attack by Chicago that didn’t yield a goal, Denver struck back with a goal by Josh Sims, with another assist by Drew Westervelt. Denver struck again within a minute with a 2-point goal by Brian Langtry, assisted by Sean Lindsay.
Chicago got back on the boards with a goal by Matt Streibel, bringing the score to 7-3 in favor of the Outlaws.
Chicago had a shot with a man-up near the end of the half but failed to convert. Denver Sean Lindsay then scored an unassisted goal to bring the score to 8-3 in favor of Denver at the end of the half.
Denver got the scoring underway in the 2nd half with an unassisted goal by Max Seibald. Chicago answered quickly with an unassisted goal by Matt Streibl.
Penalties on Machine player Steve Whittenberg for an illegal cross check and unsportsmanlike conduct put Chicago a man down. Denver took advantage and Drew Westervelt scored a goal, assisted by Josh Sims to make the score 10 to 4 in favor of Denver. Brian Langtry struck again 4 minutes later, scoring his 3rd goal of the game unassisted – a 2 pointer.
After a rapid exchange that included a turnover for both teams, Chicago ended up with the ball and fed by Steven Brooks, Chicago long pole middle Jake Dean netted a goal to bring the score to 12 to 5. Right before the end of the 3rd quarter, Denver responded with a goal by Brendan Mundorf, assisted by Matt Brown.
Mike Leveille joined his brother in the goal scoring with 11 minutes to go in the game with an unassisted goal from just beyond the crease.
After a shot on goal that was saved by Chicago’s goalie Mike Gable, Denver’s Josh Sims picked up the loose ball in front of the net and scored a goal. Chicago responded with a quick face off win by Jake Deane and some nice passing by Chazz Woodson that led to a goal by Kevin Leveille, assisted by Rookie Kenny Nims. With 9 minutes left, Denver led 14 to 7.
Jake Deane added his 2nd goal of the goal at the 7:15 mark, assisted by Mike Leveille.
Denver responded with another goal by Brendan Mundorf, his 2nd of the game. Chicago struck right back with an unassisted goal by Chazz Woodson bringing the Machine within 6 points, 15-9. Kevin Leveille then scored his 3rd goal of the game on a nice behind the goal feed from his brother, Mike Leveille. Chicago scored its 3rd goal in a row with a feed by Kenny Nims to Terry Kimener bringing the score to 15 to 11.
Chicago had several chances in the last 2 minutes to add to their tally but the Denver defense held and the Outlaws won the game 15-11. Chicago drops to 1-3 and Denver moves to 3-1.
Goals by Denver: Brendan Mundorf (2), Josh Sims (3), Brian Langry (3), Drew Westervelt (1), Matt Brown (1), Sean Lindsay (2) and Max Seibald. Two of Brian Langtry's goals were 2-pointers. Outlaw Goalie Jesse Schwartzman allowed 11 goals on 28 shots on goal, saving 17.
Goals for Chicago: Chazz Woodson (1), Terry Kimener (1), Jake Deane (2), Kevin Leveille (3), Steven Brooks (1), Matt Striebel (2) and Mike Leveille (1). Chicago Goalie Mike Gable allowed 13 goals (including two 2-pointers) on 25 shots on goal with 12 saves.
Josh Sims with 3 goals on just four shots-on-goal plus an assist was named the Bud Light MVP of the game. Game attendance was 3,265.
